We are so excited that PyData are returning to Cardiff and hope to see previous attendees again, as well as newcomers to the community.

This event sponsored by Antiverse who are providing venue (Tramshed Tech) together with food and refreshments (free beer, soft drinks and pizza!).

Doors open at 6pm for a workshop/introduction to tree-based machine learning algorithms (decision trees, random forests, etc.). The main event with two great speakers will start at 7pm. After the event, the PyData community will be heading to a local pub close to Cardiff Central Station.

Speakers

Talk 1: Michael Hodge - Senior Data Scientist ONS Data Science Campus

Michael will be talking about how he helped thousands of people to get passport appointments using a Twitter bot programmed in Python. More information about this can be read on his blog Creating a Twitter Bot to post when a UK Government passport service is online | by Michael Hodge | Medium

Talk 2: Amit Chandra - Senior Analytics Manager at Admiral & Head of Data Science at AXA Insurance

Amit will be talking about his 10+ years experience of using machine learning in insurance and loans.

We also have some local representatives from a Cardiff based recruitment firm, IntaPeople, present. So if anyone is interested in learning more about the local job market for data science, then this is a great opportunity.

The event will be covered by the PyData Code of Conduct: https://numfocus.org/code-of-conduct, and we would like to stress that one of the main goals of NumFocus and PyData is to increase diversity in the data science field. Our aim is to have an entertaining and informative evening, which will be a welcoming and safe space for everyone, from all backgrounds and technical abilities.
