Award season is upon us once again but this time, we come together after what has been a tumultuous couple of years.
The startup community is one of innovation and entrepreneurial spirit. As a startup ecosystem we’ve witnessed first-hand how businesses have come to adapt and thrive in the face of these challenges. Small businesses going from one to two, to four — as they prove their impact and value in their sector. Growing teams who are doing things differently and lifting others up while doing it.

Digital Start-up of the Year (Wales Startup Awards)
Founded by Marco Oliver and Josh Evans in late 2019, Configur are a software development company that simplify data driven processes for businesses. Through their platform, businesses can unlock the power of their data and collaborate in a real-time 360 view.
Since being founded, we’ve been lucky enough to partner with Configur to deliver a number of exciting projects and get to know the great team behind the name. We asked CEO and founder Marco Oliver about the past year and the milestones they have achieved since founding the company.
Its been amazing to be nominated as finalists in two categories but winning would close off a really busy and successful year to catapult us into our 3rd year. Since launching the platform we have onboarded an amazing mix of clients, opened a second office, grown the team to 9 and just completed a funding round which will be announced shortly.
Nominated for Rising Stars award (Wales Startup Awards)
Founded in April 2020 by Aled Nelmes, Lumen SEO are specialists in SEO and PPC services, supporting small and medium sized businesses. Aled launched Lumen SEO gradually as he scaled back his previous job as he took on new clients. Now with a core team of four and a 100% success rate in increasing client revenue, Lumen continue to go from strength to strength — making a name for themselves as one of Cardiff’s brightest young marketing agencies.
We spoke to Lumen SEO team to learn more about what being nominated means to them in their first year of trading:
Actually getting to the final is amazing in itself, especially if you look at the other nominees as well. Even if we don't win, the fact that we’re nominated is amazing, especially as we’ve only been going for a year.
Nominated for Financial and Professional Services Start-up of the Year (Wales Startup Awards)
Founded in 2019, Moxie People are a new breed of socially responsible recruiters specialised in social housing and the third sector. Connecting people with meaningful jobs that make a difference, Moxie aren’t afraid of challenging the status quo to go about it.
Not only do they reinvest 5% of their profits into the Moxie Foundation—a bursary that helps Social Housing tenants and those in need when they need financial support to find employment, but their Working Wardrobe scheme collects and donates interview clothing to people looking for work in our communities in South Wales.
Talking about the nomination, Rachel Hutchings, Talent Manager at Moxie gave her thoughts on why being nominated gives validation to their ethos of leading with purpose.
It would help prove that you don’t have to follow the mould of traditional services to deliver epic service. Employment has the power to transform lives & that message often gets lost within the recruitment industry — we want future startups to realise that purpose led businesses pay off!
