1. England is Online
England is in lockdown until the 3rd of December during what would normally be one of the busiest times for retail. Online media and consumption of which will increase by at least 100%. For businesses, this means if you are spending on PPC ads or carrying out any UK or EU advertising, this is the best time to focus your spend on England - especially if you are an ecommerce business in the gift market. If you haven't tried PPC ads before and you sell products, perhaps this could be the best time to start? For guidance, feel free to contact me on aled@lumenseo.co.uk
2. Reels and More Reels
Instagram has officially called Tik Tok's bet and raised. Instagram has been updated and the reels section now features outside of discovery and in the very center of the menu options. This is a HUGE update and makes it clear tha Instagram are looking to introduce the additive 15-30 second video reels to their older user base compared to TikTok. So, if your market is older than the under 21 TikTok market and you want to engage with them in this surge of activity then get testing - have fun and don't be too salesy in your reel videos.
3. PR is on the rise
Spend in PR service increased by 6% in 2019 and we're expecting this to grow exponentially in digital PR during 2020. Myself, I've noticed the success rate of responding to JournoRequests (open requests from journalists) increasing from 5% to around 10%. It's a great way to expose your business through online media and gain high quality links to improve your SEO. So, sign up for HARO, spend 5 minutes looking through their email updates and respond to any relevant requests as soon as you can - the earlier you respond the more likely you are to get featured.
4. It's time for Transparency
2021 will see social networks taking stronger action against misleading content as misinformation continues to sway election results and fuel damaging online trends. However, with every problem is a golden opportunity for you, the small business owner. The opportunity is to form a bond with your customers who right now are craving good quality information and trustworthy guidance online. When you post online, use well researched sources like the BBC. Be transparent and show the insides of your business and how your product or service is carried out or made. They will thank you for it and this will increase repeat purchase.
