That’s why we wanted to take a moment to celebrate the achievements of Lumen SEO who have now expanded to a team of three with new hires Holly Charman (Campaign Assistant) and Laura Mallinson (copywriter) joining the ranks — less than 12 months after the agency was founded by Aled Nelmes.

We caught up with Aled Nelmes, founder of Lumen SEO, to ask him about the secrets to a successful first year and what the future looks like for the business.

The first year

"The first year is always rocky for any new business and as someone who is very risk averse, I needed support. The startup academy connected us with a community which as a solo entrepreneur is absolute gold. The academy allowed me to meet other founders and share tips and advice as well as sweating the small stuff. Joining any kind of community like the startup academy offers an essential boost and foundations of interest in what you do, and at the very least, kept me sleeping at night".

The year ahead

"The year ahead I intend to make some investments and be a little more risky. I'm naturally a very risk-averse person so this is my challenge for the year. The workshops have been a huge hit getting some of the highest attendance numbers so I want to grow in the education space, specifically in online learning - its a growing industry and allows us to empower the startup founder as well as the SME owners we currently work for"
