Virtus Tech Awarded £10k & 1 Year Mentorship From Google For Startups

Virtus Tech become the ones to watch after securing £10,000 in equity free cash and mentorship from Google for Startups and Tramshed Tech

Over the past 12-weeks, the Startup Academy powered by Tramshed Tech and supported by Google for Startups has supported 29 startups in learning the skills they need to commercialise their business. Thursday 9th December saw the Startup Academy cohort pitch to a panel of investors including Google for Startups. Following the event, Virtus Tech secured £10,000 in equity free cash, mentorship from Tramshed Tech and Google for Startups and a Tramshed Tech membership for one year.

Virtus Tech founders George Bellwood and Robin David met whilst studying at Cardiff University, George studying Business, Management and Marketing and Robin studying Computer Software Engineering. The duo joined forces with a mission to change the way we shop, view, and learn using VR and Data and within this, Virtus Tech was born.

It has been an absolute pleasure being part of this year’s Start Up Academy powered by Tramshed Tech. We have been on many other accelerator programmes and this one has truly been the best by far! We are so honoured here at Virtus Tech to have won the £10,000 equity-free cash and mentoring support from Google for Start-ups. This support will go a long way and enable us to invest in our amazing team as well as purchase new equipment to push the boundaries of VR technology.  — George Bellwood, CEO and Co-Founder, Virtus Tech

Virtus Tech is a virtual reality and data analytics company based in Cardiff. Their DIGIVERSE platform uses virtual reality and data to enable organisations to communicate with customers and train staff in a virtual environment. They are currently working across multiple industries to include education, hospitality and healthcare to create real time virtual environments using 360 images and videos.

George Bellwood, co-founder of Virtue Tech continued to say "We know that with Googles amazing guidance we can continue to grow the company in the heart of Wales and have a grander vision on our DIGIVERSE platform. I would also like to stress that I am very shocked as there were such amazing start-ups on the programme, all of which I had the privilege to become friends with and learn from! I would like to thank Tramshed Tech and their team, without your support over the years we wouldn’t be where we are today, and we hope to make you all proud!" We were delighted to deepen our partnership with Tramshed Tech and support the Startup Academy this year. The quality of the cohort is a testament to the quality of entrepreneurial talent that Wales has on offer, and further proof that you don't need to be in London to grow a successful business. A massive congratulations to Virtus Tech who are a prime example of a fast growing, innovative business led by founders with a global ambition. We are excited to work with them as they capture this growing market. — Marta Krupinska, Head of Google for Startups UK

Watching George and Robin grow as entrepreneurs has been an absolute pleasure. Virtus Tech is an incredible business with great potential, so they are worthy winners and we can’t wait to support their next phase of growth.  We have been blown away by the Startup Academy cohort this year. Google for Startups had their work cut out choosing just one business to award £10,000 and their backing to, so it’s great to see that they’ve chosen to provide continued support to Route Konnect, PlayThru, MyCuture and Portl. Congratulations everyone! — Jessica Phillips, Enterprise Innovation Manager and Academy Founder, Tramshed Tech

As well as the intended award, Google for Startups established four other highly commended businesses from the cohort; Route Konnect, PlayThru, MyCuture and Portl., all of which have been provided a commitment of support from Google for Startups.

Registration for the next Startup Academy is now open with registration closing 12th January 2022 and the academy starting 27th January 2022.
