How To Improve Your Digital Marketing Strategy

Sophie Webber, a Digital Strategist from Crunch has been part of the Tramshed Tech community for over four years and this week, she shares insights around developing a strong marketing strategy for your business. Here are our top tips to improving your digital marketing strategy.

To improve your digital marketing strategy you should:

  1. Know your competitors
  2. Understand your target audience
  3. Set your objectives
  4. Maintain a multi-channel approach
  5. Set up tracking and reporting

1. Know Your Competitors

The first tip to improve your digital marketing strategy is to get to know your competitors.

It might sound simple, but choosing three or four competitors in your space and comparing them to understand where they are most active and what their strategy is across channels is essential to gain a better idea of who your business is up against.

From here, you can decide how to differentiate yourself.

This is paramount in setting yourself apart whilst also remaining competitive.

2. Understand Your Target Audience

Once you have an understanding of who you’re up against, you need to understand who you’re targeting.

If you have a variety of customers or clients, it’s a good idea to develop different personas and then drill down into their demographics.

It’s important to understand where they are located, what their interests are etc.

Secondly, you need to understand which platforms they are most active on, as this is crucial to making the most out of your digital marketing efforts.

If you don’t understand this, you could end up wasting your budget and not using resources efficiently when it comes to building campaigns.

3. Set Your Objectives

The next tip for improving your digital marketing strategy is to make sure you set SMART objectives.

This means that they are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time Bound.

An example could be improving your conversion rate by 15%, by the end of the year.

By focusing your efforts on the conversion stage of the funnel, you are working towards the same goal to help you achieve results.

4. Maintain A Multi-Channel Approach

Another important tip to bear in mind is to maintain a multi-channel approach.

This means using various channels such as email, social, and Google, to reach your customer at those different touchpoints across their buyer journey.

This helps with everything from awareness when they are first seeing or encountering your brand, driving down to consideration.

In turn, this can impact your conversions, whether this results in leads or actually buying one of your products.

5. Set Up Tracking & Reporting

Lastly, you will want to make sure that you have your tracking and reporting set up.

You want to be looking at the data to see if your efforts are working towards those objectives.

If they are not delivering against those KPIs, that is when you are going to relook at your strategy and see what needs tweaking as a result.

As such, it is recommended that you have Google Analytics set up on your website.

This helps you to access all of that data, and then see how well your campaigns are doing. From here, you can determine what you need to focus on and make the necessary adjustments to get the most out of your marketing efforts.

Hopefully these tips have helped you and provided you with some inspiration on how to improve your digital marketing strategy.
